End of day in the Carcavelos Beach to the deep we have the Fortress of S.Julião situated in the tip of São Gião at right edge of the river Tagos, in the village of Oeiras.
Considered in the past as the Shield of the Kingdom, greater maritime fortress in the country, constitutes the greater and more complete military complex of defense in remaining the Vauban style in Portugal.
The function are the control of the entrance and exit of the boats in the bar of the river TTagos and the access to the port of Lisbon. Currently it is the official residence of the Minister of the National Defense of Portugal.
