Photographer's Note
Click here for the WAY BETTER version PORTO WATERFRONT.
Was I visiting Amsterdam? Haha, not quite.
But after I posted this shot from Porto, it reminded me of the popular shots we see from Amsterdam.
With this post I reach 62 posted shots from Portugal, one more than Poland. Sorry my Polish friends :)
The plan for today was to post abandoned buildings from Porto but that will have to wait briefly.
These waterfront exterior's are so much fun to photograph, if you've been to Porto you'll know exactly where these are. I took this shot from a moving boat. I like how the buildings are not perfectly straight too.
Hope you like it

Hi Craig,i never thought to see abandoned buildings close to the waterfront,it's surely a nice zone, why to leave this beautiful place? And the pic in fact reminds a bit the dutch capital, with different styles of architechtures, colors and windows,a top quality pic another time! Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig,
I don't post as many photos as you, but also for me Portugal is slightly ahead of Poland, 35-33. Porto grew to be one of my favourite cities last year. It SOO photogenic, whichever style of pictures one prefers. This one is all about still beautiful but slightly gritty façades, not one looking the same as the other. It's good to have some people in the street, just for a show, but it's the buildings that deserve, and get, the attention.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Craig,
I can understand immediately why you were attracted by this terraced row, there are so many different details in these tall, narrow houses. It reminds me of a picture gallery. The many windows are like so many paintings, displayed in rows, yet so very varied!I
I like how one house appears to be ducking down, so that we can see the building behind, a good way of giving depth.
The few glimpses of figures, give us the scale details.
My warm regards,
Bev 😊

Hello Craig,
These narrow houses do resemble the famous canal houses in Amsterdam. I like the narrow composition and the repetition of the small balconies and the many different kinds of windows. Good work. Now all that's left is to get some shots of the real Amsterdam houses soon as well. :-)

Hello Craig,
You kinda caught this typical city scene very well with the crowded architecture.
Best Wishes,

Hi Craig,
The tight frame is putting the buidlings in evidence. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. The colors and the sharpness are very good. Have a nice day.

Hi Craig,
I must say Amsterdam canal houses look a lot better but OK after a while I see some resemblaence: Narrow houses but high in a row and all different. The most important difference is that Amsterdamn houses lack balconies.
Fine photo.
Thanks and regards,
Gerrit

Hi Craig
Gorgeous patterns with characters, soft colours and certainly charming, looks to have seen a few years by the wonderful rust & crust! A nicely captured image that shows the never ending appeal of decay..
Excellent capture

Hello Craig,
Good sharpness with effective tight framing. Superb repetition of patterns and shapes. The section in the vertical 'calem' row looks like a face and the architecture does look Dutch. Would not surprise me if Holland originally copied the style from Portugal when that country was the leading explorer and coloniser in the 15th to 18th centuries. Tfs!

Hi Craig
I do not see any similarity of Porto to Amsterdam. Bigger similarity is in Dubai.
I have much more photos from Poland. Hahaha
Now I have lenty of photos of wonderful views with no chances to show 😞.
Lovelycomposition.
I saw many beautiful abandoned buildings in Old Jeddah Unesco site. Now I go to Riyadh

Hi Craig
I can see your thinking but there isn't a tree in sight as it commonly would have been in Amsterdam. But there is a similarity in the buildings. Well taken and presented.
cheers

Bonjour, cher Craig,
Difficile de croire que ces petits immeubles sont abandonnés.
La prise de vue est très réussie avec ces façades étroites présentant une architecture différente.
C'est curieux et très bien fait.
Amitiés.

Hi Craig
I don't quite see the Amsterdam link, but I do appreciate a good shot of Porto now and then. Here I like the odd angles (as you point out in your note) and the letters/words in the shot too.

Craig, the photo shows the local architecture along the river in Porto. These old buildings with dilapidated facades have charming balconies, most of them in wrought-iron. Nice architectural details. Fine colors, good image quality, regards.

Hello Craig
It is high time that you came to the Netherlands to study the facades of Amsterdam because this does not look like it at all.
This is a little bit more the Nyhavn in Copenhagen, but there are more red colours.
Now Americans (and also Canadians?) are often confusing Amsterdam and Copenhagen.
But anyway, this is a wonderful photo of an old city.
Well done
Have a nice day, groet Rob

Hi Craig
It's hard to believe this is so perfectly composed from a moving boat but it's probably the only viewpoint to get these facades in an image at this kind of angle. Well done on grabbing this photo opportunity.
The patterns of windows and balconies and the tiles work so well together, the people at the bottom add yet another detail to look at.
Oh, you so upset me by neglecting your Polish gallery... ;-) So much so, that I'm going to have a look at it now.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hi Craig,
I Recognized the place of the Cálem text. Tight framing with all the facades set straight create quite graphical effect. I should get back to my photos from there too.

Hello Craig, I like shots like this where the view is concentrated on one theme. Every building is different, and the narrow slightly less tall building in the centre looks like an afterthought!
They have all seen better days, but for people like you they give a great photo opportunity.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Hello Craig,
Dutch architecture had lot's of influence by Portiguesse style, as centuries ago they had strong commercial relations between those countries.
Calem is a known brand for port-wine, and the cafe' bearing this sign is on the Ribeira old district, if my memory is right. A nice take upon the old facade. Typical for this town.
Have a nice new week,
Ike

Hi Craig,
Porto is so photogenic indeed and the damaged houses so full of charm.
I like that each and everyone of them seems different. That may be difference to Amsterdam where all of them seems quite similar f not the same.
I had the pleasure to visit this beautiful town as well.
I may need to revisit my archives this winter :)
Great fragment of the town. I like also that there seem to be another layer of the buildings behind.
The text was well placed asymmetrically in the frame,
Great work,
M
