Photographer's Note

On the graveyard outside Morović there is kept the Roman Catholic CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, one of the oldest sacral buildings in Srem. Two building phases, in roman and gothic architectonic style heritage, actually determined its beginning at the time, much earlier than the first mention of the churches in the written sources of XVII century, while the legends mention many historical persons as the possible legacies. Today temple represents all the works which were done on it throughout the centuries of its existence. The oldest part of the church is the shrine with the U- turn apse and in roman style made window holes, while on the west side are somehow higher and wider central part of the church, whose windows are finished with cut arc in gothic style, and emphasized with oculus with four – leaf rosettes. Near the west upper part there is the tower of square base which above the second stage becomes the eight – square. Near the windows, the only architectonic elements which bring back to life façade linen, which represent the massive supporting wall, without any constructive role. The simple stone church façade in Morović contributes to its rustic style which is in harmony of this old monument. The conservative works were done in the period of 1968. – 1972.
