Photographer's Note

A patch of sunflowers in a local Farm shop at Lifton made an attractive sight at sunset on the last day of August.

a wonderful last day of summer shot this. Cold here this morning so this brightened up my day. Love the one sentinel flower rising above the rest and your management of the difficult light here makes the image so endearing. Beautiful!

Love this scene. Sunflower fields make such a cool subject, and I dont think I have ever seen one photographed with such beautiful light and background behind it. The one standing tall on left is a great focal point for the whole scene and almost seems to be dancing. Really nicely done.

This is a striking and very beautiful image which was very well seen and very well taken. Just the thing to brighten our spirits at this time of year when we can feel the evenings and nights starting to get darker and colder!

Your photograph is delightfully composed, the lone flower standing upwards agaist the setting sun while all the others smilingly turn their faces towards you.

Lovely light and colours, excellent light management and exquisite depth of field and sharpness.

P.S. On a techical note, I am curious to know how you managed the light here. Did you use a graduated ND filter to darken the sky/lighten the foreground flowers or did you do this later in Photoshop - perhaps using layers?

Hi Les,really beautiful this backlight on the sunflowers,a very difficult light,the sky is a bit overexposed close to the last sun but need that to have the best details on the flowers,excellent details too.Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

This is a fine composition of spectacular flowers and evening sky. I appreciate the mild, slightly desaturated colours. I think most people (probably including myself) would have been tempted to make the colours a lot more flashy.

Not an easy shot against the light, but you did a great job exposing the sunflow nicely. I like the dramatic mood with the darken sky and bright spot of the sun. Beautiful and romantic summer atmosphere.

Very difficult contrasts to handle here ;) You did quite well ! There is just a weird halo around the sun flower on the left, and with your under exposure gradient, it almost turned black ;)

this is an attractive composition with the fg sunflowers and pastel gold & pink of the ski. I like the cheeky solo sunflower who has the audacity to put its head above the parapet (and the got shot by you!).

Hi, Leslie. Just a shot of this sunflower field would have been a beautiful composition, but the silhouette of the taller one in front of the sunset colors makes it more special. Great colors; excellent light management. TFS
