Photographer's Note

Last night, the huge Hindu population in the area where I live celebrated Diwali (or Deepawali) literally meaning "Lines of Lamps". Diwali is a major Hindu festival, depicting a Festival of Lights. It symbolises the victory of good over evil and lamps are lit as a sign for celebration and hope for mankind.

Sounds like a good idea to me so I thought I'd try and capture something that depicted a "line of lamps". Unfortunately, the show last night was more audible than visible, lasting from about 7 p.m. until gone 11 p.m. This was the best I managed to get that represented the "line of lamps".

I had never photographed fireworks before so, armed with the exposure information I'd learned from TrekEarth, I thought I would have a go.

This was taken from the window of the back bedroom using a mini tripod, which wasn't easy to keep stable as the spread of the tripod's legs was wider than the windowsill!

Anyway, Happy Diwali to all Hindus everywhere.
