Photographer's Note

The travertine terraces of Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) at blue hour. Well worth an overnight stay for a daytrip to neighboring Afrodisias (Aphrodisias) ruins and museum. Atop the plateau is the ancient Greco Roman city of Hierapolis and Cleopatra's thermal pool which is a constant 37c. It's rumoured that Marc Antony and Cleopatra swam there.

we don't see many blue hour scenes from here thats for sure.
quite the striking blue sky, and the lighting on the hillsides make the landscape kinda spooky. never seen it like this before. fine end result, pin sharp.

Hello Chris,
It's less common, as far as I know, to see nighttime photos of Pamukkale. It looks like a rather mysterious place in this light and it is superbly reflected. I think swimming in the natural pools is rather restricted these days.

Avec ces lumières qui brillent quelle image quel château de Cotton fantastique avec la végétation les reflets sure le plan d'eua sueprbe compo et image et ce étoiles lumineuse.

Bonjour Chris,

Les reflets sur l'eau sont des atouts à la composition. L'utilisation d'une vitesse lente d'exposition et probablement d'un support permet de voir certains détails du château Cotton. Cela a aussi un effet spécial sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Hi Chris,
I think this is the first night time view I've seen from this place. Just magnificient. Illumination is done quite well and perfectly still water gives clear reflections of those terraces.

You have given us some excellent links to history!
This is a very good blue hour shot just before the sky turns too dark.
The scene is beautifully illuminated and somehow, seems to create a very mysterious atmosphere.

fantastic blue hour photo!
I have spent a night in a hotel nearby and I hoped originally to get closer for the blue hour but someone told me that the whole place is locked after it is dark. I suppose I should have tried...
The natural beauty of this place is very much enhance by the presence of the reflection in the foreground.

Hello Chris, I do not remember any photos from Pamukkale in the night. marvelous dark blue hour picture. Nice starlets, lovely dark silhouettes on the top.

Hello Chris,
Wow, they regenerated the travertines. Once, the "touristic" establishments diverted so much water that the travertines were getting yellow and receding. I am so glad that they look white and continuous, like snow cover again.
