Photographer's Note

It has been 8 years since I posted my first picture in Trekearth. In those days, Trekearth was a much different site than what it is now. Whether the change has been for good or for bad, let me not go into rhetoric. But I have no qualms in saying that whatever I have learnt about this amazing art of photography is all thanks to this website. I am still quite excited to be a part of this wonderful community that is TE!

Thanks also to this website, I have made friends from all over the world. I have been fortunate to meet a few of them in person & the moments have been electrifying as well as gratifying.

Last year I went to Turkey with one such friend & met another....This post is dedicated to both of you - Sabyasachi and Deniz!

This is a picture which I took Cappadocia in Turkey

I take this opportunity to thank every one in this community for sharing such wonderful pictures from every parts of our beautiful planet. Seeing your pictures has indeed been an enlightening experience for me. A special thanks to those, who have taken time & efforts to comment or critique my pictures, helping me, but a novice, in my quest to improve my photography and knowledge

This photo for to celebrate the event is powerful, I love the silhouettes of the balloons on the clouds, the nice back lighting, the dark landscape at the lower part of the frame, and the dramatical effect because of the good choice of B&W.
The composition is superb.
I wait your photos for 8 more years.

Heartiest Congratulations on completing 8 years over here, that is no mean feat in itself.
The wonderful cloud formations in this photo, would have made a fine photo, but the silhouette of so many balloons in the frame makes it great. Like the choice of title as well, very apt for the occasion.
Wishing to see many such wonderful moments from you in years to come. Thanks for sharing.

Congratulations dear Angshu! A milestone moment and I salute your dedication to TE. This is an unusual way to present the balloons and I admire your creative and 'out-of-the-box' thinking. Generally, it is the colours of the balloons that attract but here you have converted to B&W which has emphasised the dramatic sky with its piercing light. Nicely done! Warm regards Rosemary

hi angshu. it is rare that people celebrate the anniversaries of their first posts on TE (they usually go for the date of membership), but that's true: first upload is the actual start of one's membership for sure.
so, you are one of the "gradpa"s, if not the "dinosaurs" here. 8 years is too long. isn't it amazing to see many things changing in our lives, while TE still remaining a constant? that is one of the reasons i like it here: becoming a digital dino feels good.
a moody, yet elegant share to celebrate your 8th. and it is surprising to see a celebration so dark, especially when it comes from angshu, who is a sucker for colors, and from cappadocia balloon ride, which is an event about colors.

Hello Angshu,
congratulations on your anniversary - may you have more and more of those because on contribution to TE is very valuable. And sometimes I think we are a little bit like these balloons - floating higher and higher with what we learn from here.
Nice picture and well framed. Unusual for this kind of image use of Black and White makes it more original and eye catching. Very good contrast given to the quite dramatic sky.

Congrats on your 8th year, what an impressive strong contrast image to mark the day. Masses of that sky is superb full of drama, wonderful shades and light belting compo that you seem never be afraid to push those tones to the limit in mono effect!! Positioning the spread out striking silhouetted balloons go down very well against the lighter patch of dominant sky and appear strong enough for that depth with three-D feel. Great shot creating alot of atmosphere and has a real effect with it in mono, Congrats.

Hi Angshu, Indeed, it is wonderful site, and especially when through it you meet some friends all over the world. I am floating like you also quite a long time and still much addicted to it. I also met Deniz in Istanbul and yesterday I met another friend that is no longer on TE - Arnab Chatterjee :) in Finland. I wish many more photos and meetings in this site and i reality - maybe one day, we will also meet, who knows..

Nice B&W postcard to feast your 8th anniversary on this site.
As you say, it has changed and for instance this picture would have got hundreds of smileys instead of only 46! Less posts everyday, and the good photographers are gone elsewhere.

B&w makes the shot different from what we usually see from this place. I like the silhouettes of the balloons and the sky is fantastic. A good conversion and a very good contrast.

It's fantastic to see the most luminous clouds in the sky together with the dark ones while the earth is completely in darkness.
The balloons are dotted all over the picture. Great that you also captured one with the lowest clear horizontal layer on its background.
