Photographer's Note

Greetings to Dear Cristina ("Papera") for her amazing series titled "Us vs. them"...

There is a Turkish proverb which can be translated as: "Alcohol doesn't stand (innocent) as it stays in a bottle"

This picture was taken in Zeyrek in 1988, the year I seriously started to get involved with photography. I was then a member of the photography club in the university. I developed my first analog films there.

Zeyrek is located in the old quarters of Istanbul. Overlooking the Golden Horn, it got its name from the mosque of Zeyrek. Filled with monuments from the Byzantine and Ottoman eras, it is a picturesque but poor neighborhood with old wooden houses.

Scanned from analog, applied sepia & increased contrast.
