Photographer's Note

Feeling more and more shy when posting landscapes, but I have other such views that I'd like to share : yes, another of those golden sceneries but I'll try in this series to avoid the clichés and the places where everyone is going... Your critiques and advice are welcome !

This one is far from perfect, sorry not to have a better one that I could dedicate to gentle Shaeri (crckt) who excels in landscapes and who is nonetheless sometimes posting great photos of people (loved the one you posted yesterday, Shaeri !)

A small non-descript village without any hotel or even any shop where I stayed last year for a few days : Gülheyran is not far from Kars and very close to the Armenian border.

The main occupation there is raising cows, each family has a vast amount of cattle but the village is slowly being depopulated because of the very harsh conditions of living during the winter in such high altitude. In the WS : a view more to the left with more cows and more smoke, same time : sunset.

The story of this village is typical : apart from cattle raising, no other job available ; most men migrate to the west of the country, finding work in the construction sector or in restaurants ; some of them settle there and their parents, wives and children left behind tend to follow them soon after. It is the case for Zelal's family who lives now in the suburbs of Ankara.
