Photographer's Note

Enroute from Vancouver, British Columbia to Alaska, the Serenade of the Sea is just one of the many cruiseships that passes by Campbell River during the summer months. The ships travel up the Johnstone Straight between Campbell River (on the Northeastern shore of Vancouver Island) and Quadra Island. They are a favourite attraction of both the locals and tourists alike! We have seen as many as seven different sized ships pass through in one evening.

In the ten years that I lived in Campbell River, the cruise ships got bigger and bigger. At one point, they even ended up having to raise power lines to allow the passage of the Serenade's sister ship, Legend of the Seas, which went into commission before the Serenade.

These cruise ships have become like floating cities with every amenity imaginable... it's no wonder that we all stop and watch in awe as they go by.... One day I would like to be on one of those ships!

The Serenade of the Sea is a Royal Caribbean ship - if you would like to check out what it has on board, you can check out their website.
