Many places in Canada hold their annual "polar bear swim" on 01 January. and yes, there are medics on hand.
This one was at Ladysmith, on Vancouver Island. I arrived to see other photographers standing on shore, so I waded into the water and held the camera low with zoom set around 140mm, and autofocus OFF. As well, I wanted quick shutter so set ISO higher than usual.
This one young lady appears to be leading others out of the water. Her position, smile,and tiara caught my eye and made this photo appealing.
