Photographer's Note

To the south of the Cross Group, and on the east bank of the Otulum River in the jungle, there is another group of temples i.e. Temples XVII, XVIII, XVIIIa, XIX, XIXa, XX, XXa, XXI and XXII. I recall seeing a path at the base of the Temple of the Foliated Cross leading off to the right, but it was roped off on my visit earlier this year. I believe also there is a path along the river, but these may require a guide as escort, if at all accessible.

This photograph, taken at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Gatineau, Quebec, is known as the Tablet of the Warriors. It is in three sections, the rightmost found at another temple in the vicinity. The male holding the spear is the firstborn son of Pakal the Great, K'inich Kan B'ahlam II, r. 684 - 702 CE, and he has captured the male kneeling before him, B'olon Yooj, on January 14, 695 CE. The ajaw wears the headdress of the War Serpent.
