Photographer's Note

Temple II is the second of the five temples, numbered from east to west, comprising what is called the North Group. Coincidentally, it may also have been the second constructed, in the same manner as other temples at Palenque. It would also have had a roof comb and been painted in red. The North Group features three large temples, V, IV, and II, and two small altars called "adoratories". They were constructed on the one platform at the northern edge of the escarpment that marks the boundary of the ceremonial centre.
