Photographer's Note

A relief from the Mayan Palace of Masks at the ruins of Kabah in the Yucatan. There are no rivers on the Yucatan Peninsula, so the rain god, Chac had great significance. That is why Chac masks are such a prevalent feature of Mayan architecture. This ancient temple is covered with nearly 300 masks of Chac.
