In the heart of the extensive solar
Antequera is Andalusian, "the city
of the white churches and Gongora "in sentence
Gerardo Diego. Nestled in the lap of
the famous mountains of the Torcal de Antequera
and hovering on the edge of the green sea home
the wide Vega, Antequera is a city of history and monumental antañona built over many centuries.

Antequera is on the slope of a hill, between the Sierra del Torcal and an extensive agricultural plain. Crowned by the castle walls and the Basilica of Santa Maria, Antequera offers the traveler who enters the road to the Torcal an urban landscape characteristic of the large villages of Andalucia. Numerous towers of churches and convents stand between a traditional architecture of tile roofs and facades of lime Arabic.

Vlll-century after the conquest of the city-BenMuza Abdelaziz, it was renamed MedinaAntikaria, and later Antikaria. The Arabs must build the walls of the Medina and the Alcazaba, which highlights the Torre del Homenaje. But despite all the defenses built, the city fell in 1410 to the troops of the Infante Don Fernando. By becoming a border town went through a difficult period, but once that ended with the Arab threat the city enjoyed a period of demographic and urban expansion, due to its natural location and the actual number of privileges granted, aimed at promote their crecimiento.El XVI century, in the second half especially, will lead the fastest growing cultural moment in the history of the city. En el corazón mismo del extenso solar
andaluz se encuentra Antequera, "la ciudad
de las iglesias blancas y Gongorinas", en frase
de Gerardo Diego. Cobijada bajo el regazo de
la famosa sierra de el Torcal de Antequera
y asomando la orilla de sus casas al mar verde
de la amplia Vega, Antequera es ciudad de antañona historia y de monumentalidad construida a través de muchos siglos.

Antequera se extiende por la ladera de una pequeña colina, entre la Sierra del Torcal y una extensa llanura agrícola. Coronada por las murallas de su castillo y por la Basílica de Santa María, Antequera ofrece al viajero que se adentra por la carretera del Torcal un paisaje urbano característico de los grandes pueblos de Andalucía. Numerosas torres de iglesias y conventos sobresalen entre una arquitectura popular de cubiertas de teja árabe y fachadas de cal.

En el siglo Vlll tras la conquista de la ciudad por Abdelaziz-BenMuza, ésta pasó a llamarse MedinaAntikaria, y más adelante Antikaria. A los árabes se debe la construcción de las murallas de la Medina y de la Alcazaba,en la que se destaca la Torre del Homenaje. Pero pese a todas las defensas construidas, la ciudad cayó en 1410 ante las tropas del Infante Don Fernando. Al convertirse en ciudad fronteriza pasó por un periodo difícil, pero una vez que se terminó con la amenaza árabe la ciudad disfrutó de un período de expansión demográfica y urbana, como consecuencia de su ubicación natural y de la serie de privilegios reales otorgados, tendentes a favorecer su crecimiento.El siglo XVI, en su segunda mitad especialmente, va a suponer el momento de mayor crecimiento cultural en la historia de la ciudad. Se levantan templos y palacios y en torno a ellos se va configurando lo que hoy conocemos como casco antiguo, que alcanza su estructura definitiva en el siglo XVIII.

No tenia idea de esta ciudad que por su arquitectura,colorido y ventanas con barrotes es tipica del sur de España

Hello Luis,
Another beautiful town in Andalucia that I've once visited.
This is a very nice view down the street leading to the church. We can see a lot of windows with the typical wrought ironwork. Also balconies have it often and sometimes it's a real artwork.
The whole has a lot of charm.

I remember seeing this white town from the highway enroute Cordoba, in 6/1998, but did not stop over. from a distanace it seemedd just as you describe it: nea a slop of a hill and vast agri.-landscape, castle and tower's. So, maybe next time around...
Nice taken old towns typical Andalucian style alley.

Quelle belle rue. Les maisons aux murs blancs semblent capter toute la lumière qu'offre le soleil très fort en Andalousie. J'aime le contraste avec le ciel très polarisé.

It is a lot of sun here.. The people must protect themselves, mounting window shutters and closing them. And the balconies on the left are Arabic influence, I suppose. Beautiful view of this Andalusian town. Marvelous colours.

me gusta acá el contraste de colores: el cielo azul contra las casas, el blanco contra el amarillo. hermosa vista de la arquitectura local con buena luz y definición. gracias por compartir.
PS: la tragedia con los jóvenes es algo muy triste, espero que alguna cosa se haga para evitar futuros desastres como aquel.

Another splendid catch of the historic old town where white diominates as traditional color, but the additional brown building in the back drop adds that extra contrast. I love the framing and pov in brilliant light, the vividness of colors and details while the deep polarized blue sky finishes off so stunningly. A fine photo works so well taken, TFS

imagen deliciosa aquí. Podemos apreciar y disfrutar la sencilla belleza de la arquitectura blanca de estos pueblos andaluces, sus bonitas rejas de hierro forjado y sus elegantes farolas, bajo una luz fuerte y difícil, que crea unas eficaces sombras.
Me gusta también el contraste de esas casas blancas con respecto a los tonos pardos de la iglesia.
Buena luminosidad, buena perspectiva y bonito grafismo en esta bella composición.
