I was this afternoon in Bruges, I was looking to make a portrait a special man or woman, but I saw this and could not resist to take a picture and instantly post on TE
My theme is: The 18th-century gateway and the Vineyard Bridge, in Dutch “De Wijngaardbrug”

The Princely Beguinage of Wijngaerde is the only preserved Beguinage in Bruges. There are no beguines, but since 1927 there lived a monastic community of Benedictine nuns, founded by Canon Hoornaert. In that year, the houses on the west side were transformed and expanded into the Monasterium Vineyard, a priory of Benedictine parish sisters.

The 18th-century gateway and the Vineyard Bridge
History:
Al 1240 for a community of pious women came to settle on the estate of the Wi (j) ngaard ', in the south of the city. This name was probably referring to low-lying grassland. The beguinage was founded around 1244 by Margrethe II of Constantinople, after Walter Marvis, bishop of Tournai, had requested to be allowed to transfer the count's chapel on the Burg to the Vineyard. In 1245 it was recognized as an independent parish. In 1299 it came under the direct authority of King Philip the Fair and received the title of 'Princely Beguinage'.
