History of the ground in this area.
When millions of years later, the first farmers came to settle in our regions, as soon proved that a large portion of non-suggested much the soils with shallow tertiary agricultural. Soil exhausted and lost during the Middle Ages evolved near the Donk and large parts of Maldegem to vast moors, which were littered with dozens of ponds; here and made barren, degraded forests scenic variety. The economically inferior lands were a refuge for outcasts, who for centuries led a miserable existence
