A Kayaker on the Green-dyed Chicago River, St. Patrick's Day, 2007

The Chicago River is dyed green every year on St. Patrick's Day since 1962 and to give recognition to Chicago's large Irish community that has been part of Chicago's character. The dye is supposed to be vegetable based, is biodegradable and its composition a secret.
