Graphical Impressions

The People Mover in Detroit is not only an interesting infrastructure construction, it also gives a photographer unprecedented opportunities for artistic impressions of the city.

If you let the camera look straight up, you can capture fascinating graphic compositions.

For the main photo and the first workshop, I brought together 5 elements: 3 prominent Detroit skyscrapers, the People Mover and a connecting bridge between two of the buildings.
Often I turn this kind of pictures so that the main lines are exactly horizontal or vertical, but for this images I preferred small tilt for some tension in the graphical composition and to avoid a too static impression.
In the third photo the People Mover and the connection between the two buildings are less important and we can concentrate on the beautiful Art Deco façade of the Guardian building.
The 3 buildings are:
☼ The Guardian Building. A landmark skyscraper. Built in 1928 and finished in 1929, the building was originally called the Union Trust Building and is a bold example of Art Deco architecture, including art modern designs.
☼ One Woodward Avenue, formerly known as the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company Building. One Woodward Avenue
☼ Ally Detroit Center, formerly One Detroit Centre. The building was designed by architects John Burgee and Philip Johnson, partners influential in postmodern architecture. Ally Detroit Centre was constructed from 1991 to 1993. The building is famous for its postmodern architectural design topped with Flemish-inspired neo-gothic spiers which blend architecturally with the city's historic skyline
