Echo Olympic Sculpture Park

Continuing walking along the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle, I thought for a moment I was teleported to Chicago when I looked at Jaume Plensa’s huge sculpture “ECHO
In the Millenium Park in Chicago I saw in 2015 the rather similar sculpture “Look into My Dreams, Awilda”

Huge sculptures with slim faces seems to be one of the trademarks of Plensa’s oeuvre and can be found in several, different, versions all over the world.

Again a presentation with three pictures.

The main upload shows the back of the head and two joggers in a fatiguing conversation running along the waterfront.
The first workshop shows a frontal picture of the face.
The second workshop shows the confusing distortion when you look up at the artwork from nearby.

Jaume Plensa modelled Echo on the
9-year-old daughter of a restaurant owner near the artist’s studio in
Barcelona. The sculpture’s title references Echo, the mountain nymph
from Greek mythology, who offended the goddess Hera. To punish
Echo, Hera deprived the nymph of speech, except for the ability
to repeat the last words of another. In this monumental sculpture,
over 46 feet tall. Plensa created this monumental head of Echo with her eyes closed, seemingly listening or in a state of meditation. The work is situated on the shoreline of the park, where Echo looks out over Puget Sound in the direction of Mount Olympus.
