Photographer's Note

this shot was taken during asheville's tattoofest ~ 80 tattoo artists, 140 colors of ink, and many people wanting artwork on their bodies.

even just wandering around as a photographer, this is a very visceral experience. the first thing you hear is the drone of dozens of tattoo guns. the second thing to assault one's senses is the smell, not overwhelming or overpowering, but still, it's there...

in the midst of so much commotion and energy, i was looking for detail shots -- the moments that speak louder that the first impressions of craziness.

i found one here in this photograph. it shows an artist focused on his
work, and the living easel who looks peaceful and trusting, despite the discomfort of the process.

with its soft lighting, this tableau of artist and his model/canvas could be a painting -- an 'old master' for future generations yet unborn.
