Photographer's Note

On a commercial flight between Brisbane and Hong Kong I was very lucky to see the entire Great Barrier Reef pass below me. From Lady Elliot and Musgrave Islands in the south right up to the northern reefs off Cooktown. This one is situated about 100 kilometres south east of Ayr on the central Queensland coast. I measured this circular lagoon reef to be 2.6 kilometres across. The two white specks to the top of the reef on the left are large charter vessles, to give a sense of scale. I will post other reef photos, including the large fringing reefs which make up the real 'barrier' that gives the collective reef its name.
