Photographer's Note

Here is another one I took on an early morning walk around Dove Lake - quite possibly one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. The fog was hauntingly thick throughout most of the walk, and I really like that in retrospect, because it forced me to think horizontally about a place that is very vertical...sheer cliff walls and hills lead up to majestic peaks, including Cradle Mountain. The fog took the focus off the mountains for a little while and I got to enjoy the beauty of the trees, the wild birds and the lake itself.

I like this shot because it almost seems to be like a gap between clouds, except for the foreground materials reminding us that one batch of fog is just a reflection. It adds, for me, some fun depth to the photo, and reminds us that the place is not as isolated as it may look. I cropped this photo slightly to reduce the height of the fog for a more balance look, but made no other adjustments. This was taken with a digital camera on automatic EV setting and without a flash.
