Photographer's Note

The town of Echuca began life in 1850 when an ex-convict built a punt to transfer people and goods from one side of the Murray River to the other. Work on the port pictured here began in 1865 where paddle steamers would pick deliver supplies from downstream and load up the regions produce of wheat and wool to haul off to the worlds markets.
