Series on my Trip to the IGUAÇU/IGUASSU FALLS - City of FOZ DO IGUAÇU (Mouth of Iguassu) - State of PARANÁ - The SOUTHERN region of BRAZIL - from March 17th to 21st, 2008 - #003 !

SALTO FLORIANO II - FLORIANO'S FALLS II - The same ones, from a slightly different point of view!

The City of FOZ DO IGUAÇU is 640km west from CURITIBA - The Capital City of the State of Paraná. It has around 280,000 inhabitants and an area of 433 square km. The climate is subtropical and humid, with hot summers (19º to 32º Celsius), mild winters (10º to 23º Celsius) and rains all over the year.

"Iguazu Falls , Iguassu Falls or Iguaçu Falls : Cataratas do Iguaçu (Portuguese), pronounced [kataˈɾatɐz du igwaˈsu]; Cataratas del Iguazú (Spanish), [kataˈɾatas del iɣwaˈsu) are waterfalls of the Iguazu/Iguaçu River located in the border of the Brazilian state of Paraná and the Argentine province of Misiones. The falls divide the river into the upper and lower Iguazu/Iguaçu.

IGUAZU/IGUAÇU comes from the Guarani or Tupi words "Y" (IPA:[ɨ]) (water) and "ÛASÚ" (IPA:[wa'su]) (big).

LEGEND: A god planned to marry a beautiful aborigine named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage, the god sliced the river creating the waterfalls, condemning the lovers to an eternal fall.

The first European to find the falls was the Spanish Conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541, after whom one of the falls in the Argentine side is named. The falls were rediscovered by Boselli at the end of the nineteenth century, and one of the Argentinian falls is named after him." (SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA)
