Photographer's Note

The rufous-collared sparrow (Zonotrichia capensis) is one of the most well-known and esteemed birds in Brazil. Its Portuguese name (tico-tico) comes from the Tupi language and derives from its call. The song "Tico-Tico no Fubá" (literally, "Rufous-Collared Sparrow in the Cornmeal"), composed in 1917 by Zequinha de Abreu and immortalized in the voice of Carmen Miranda, is a Brazilian choro of international fame in honor of this bird. Here, instead of cornmeal, it's eating remains of popcorn.
