Photographer's Note

After chasing parent birds and looking for a nest, a sudden move caught my eye. The thick knee chick ran very fast an made a sudden stop emulating its parents. I saw the general area where it had finished its run and carefully walked there. I did not want to step on the chick and kill it. Well, it took me 30 minutes of a very careful search to find this young well camouflage bird! As it turns out, it had chosen a dried up cow footprint to hide! It had chosen well, as its stripped down feathers broke the contours of its body and melted the bird into the background. Once I found it, I could not move it and its position was as such that the light was terrible. So I placed the camera on a the tripod, averaged the light and took this photograph. Total amount of time for the three pictures 1 hours! But I learned a lot about this bird, documented a short story, and got some decent pictures out of it.
