Afternoon light at Bromo Tengger, a photo from Jawa Timur, Java

An over photographed destination I know, but with good reason as I discovered!

Most people visiting Bromo Tengger on Java are convinced by the 'tourist mafia' through scaremongering; "there wont be any accomodation or transport if you don't go on a tour" - they say....

To come on a package tour to this destination - arriving by night, scaling the surrounding peaks for sunrise by jeep, and leaving by 10am the following day is a travesty. In doing so they miss being able to explore a fantastic area with so much more to offer than just that same sunrise picture most have posted on TE of Bromo Tengger. I just spent 3 days there and had plenty to occupy myself with the whole time. The surrounding countryside is fantastically beautiful and well worth an explore.

This picture was taken mid afternoon. The sunlight was piercing through the clouds as they moved and I decided to sit and wait for about 20 minutes until the light on the ground was just as I wanted it.

Hello,

Thanks for this shot from a place, for sure, I will discover one day with my SLR.
I like the bottom point of view, not so often used for this landscape. It works well with the panoramic frame you selected. As well, the sun pattern on the ground is giving its parts of originality.

Hi Lee,
Have not seen your post in awhile, This is fantastic shot even though some area are in the shadow, but still have some really nice details, especially on the large post. And you're right, I have seen many shot of this place in the morning, it is nice to see a different POV of it at different time of day. I would as you say stay an extra day to discover the beauty of the area. Great panoramic view. Thanks for the effort and tips. One day, it will be very useful for me.
