Photographer’s Note

A good friend from TE, Jeff Tupper (westozman) emailed me a couple of days ago asking why I don’t post more shots taken with my Tokina 11mm-16mm lens. Actually, I don’t use it very often, but I searched through some of my latest images and found this one. Yes, back to North Arm Cove.

I find the colour reproduction of the Tokina to be a bit warmer than the Nikon lenses, particularly in the shadow areas. I know if I’d shot this scene on the Nikon 16-85 the browns in the foreground would have been a little lighter. I don’t find it a problem, it’s just different to the Nikon lenses I have.

This was shot very late in the afternoon, the sun had completely gone behind the hill to my right but I’d kept the same aperture I’d been using on the Nikon lens I’d used for a previous post. Comparing the two shots, the Nikon lens is much bluer.

I’ve cropped this image a little, mostly from the foreground and a little from camera right.

I'm not too sure this image really fits the TOS, but the Tokina 11mm-16mm isn't represented that well here on TE, so members may find it interesting to have a look at the results from this lens.

I think the Tokina works pretty well, what do you reckon Jeff.
