Inuvik, two symbols of the Arctic:
Inukshuk and in the background the dome of the church whose architecture evokes an igloo ...
The symbol of the Inukshuk was chosen as the official logo of the upcoming Winter Olympics Games in February in Vancouver (and Whistler).
Inukshuk is a sculpture of stone resembling a human figure, originally was the Inuit of Northern Canada, who built them to achieve milestones in their vast territory.
It is now a symbol of brotherhood and solidarity.

Hello Jean,
Très belle luminosité et cadrage efficace pour ce clin d'oeil aux prochains jeux d'hiver !
Avant de lire la note j'ai pensé .... à un nouveau type de dolmen !!!! et en lisant j'ai compris ! En tout cas cette ambiance "glacée" est très réussie, bravo !

Bonsoir Jean,

L'Inukshuk dirige notre regard vers l'église ce qui donne de la profondeur à la composition. Elle permet aussi de voir les détails ert les couleurs de l'Inukshuk et de l'église. La ligne diagonale de la route est un extra pour la composition. La réflexion de la lumière sur la neige rehausse les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

C'est en somme une sorte de cairn à la Inuit... Une photo bien intéressante avec un rappel de cette belle église que tu nous avait présentée précédemment. J'aime bien la lumière dont tu as bénéficié et qui donne un relief intéressant à ce bonhomme de pierre certainement très résistant au blizzard !!! Merci Jean.

Hi Jean,

Very interesting composition. The rustic sculpture in foreground contrasts with the modern church, the car and other amenities like electricity. The life of the Inuit has also changed. The image is great. Excellent colors and textures, superb light.

Beautiful shot and technically all is great, not the prettiest landscape, but interesting subject of the stone sculpture and Igloo in the back, the foot steps and the fence and powerline in the back make it look less attractive, but it is what it is. Technically a fine and rare image from the remote part of the world. Thanks

Well this could be a coincidence but I find this couplig of the two symbols very interesting and fine. The composition is really well balanced, there is a kind of harmony between the dark and massive figure of the inuvik and the light and delicate shape of the igloo-church. Quite an unusual and lovely atmosphere.

the same stone monument there is in the down town of Vacouver city too.But here the monument is surrounded from snows with the dome of the church to completes the scenery.Well done.

Bonne perspective du dolmen par rapport à l'igloo géant.
En France la circulation est presque paralysée, alors que tout semble normal par ici.
J'aime bien la direction de la lumière bien équilibrée avec les ombres.

Hello Jean,

An igloo of a modern kind, I assume with a religious connection as judged by the cross on top!
The stone sculpture is an eye-catcher, besides it creates a fine feeling of depth in the frame...
Well exposed with the bright and shady parts, good details!
