Photographer's Note

This is a view of the Tsomgo lake, at a height of about 12,000 ft above sea level, on the Indo-Tibet highway. The locals consider it holy and worship their deities in small Gumphas nearby. This lake is a popular spot for tourists all the year around, as it offers wonderful scenery. There are shops nearby selling hot beverages and snacks too.

The lake freezes in winter and gets covered with sheet of ice, and when it starts melting, renders spectacular patterns. This shot was taken in the 3rd week of April, when the melting process has just begun. The weather was not good either, fog and mist started to deccend, and freezing cold wind was blowing too.

One can also see black electric lines across the lake, because of which taking uninterrupted photos is difficult.

I am posting another view of the lake as Workshop, where you can view the shops on the right; and also the electric poles and lines.

For another view of the same lake in warmer weather, see this recent post by adind.

Tech: Scanned from print. Sharpened, levels adjusted, border added.
