Laguna Amarga enclosed by moraines represents enclosed system - it does have inflows but not outlet. Inflows bring minerals but the lack of drainage only allows their emptying by evaporation. When the water evaporates, the minerals stay in the lake and this causes the water to become more saline.

Around the shoreline of Laguna Amarga there are grey structures, which are called stromatolites. They are
layered accretionary structures formed in shallow water by the trapping, binding and cementation of sedimentary grains by biofilms of microorganisms, especially cyanobacteria. Today living stromatolites only exist in very few places...
