Photographer’s Note

Staircase to Apadana Palace is probably one of the most photographed in Persepolis. No wonder because it's reliefs are one of the most extraordinary pieces of art I've ever seen, plus it's been preserved almost intact.

Left side of the staircase shows delegations of different subdued nations (23 of them if I remember correctly) bringing gifts to the king. Each is depicted with traditional dress, hair style or some other detail characteristic for the nation in question.

Right side (where I took this photo) shows members of the Persian Imperial Guard and unlike the other side which is all about differences, this one is about repetition. And if you think this side is boring compared to the other one, you are as far from the truth as you can be!!!
