You Thought Only In Japan? Photo

Photographer’s Note

I loved the colours in this incredibly bright neon sign in Doha, Qatar. Usually, I picture Japan, or other parts of Eastern Asia having huge, bright neon signs. Yet, as places like Doha and Dubai develop quickly, bright lights are popping up.

I think Arabic is a beautiful looking language, and I only wanted to capture the end of the script (Arabic is read right to left). It was at night, hence the black sky.

Photo is basically as I took it (without a tripod), just re-sized and normal sharpening.

Great shot, David. It is very clear and the two colours are very bold and appealing. It was well-spotted, too and shot from an interesting angle. Do you know what the sign says?

wow beautiful colors!! The sign shows 2 letters, from right the first letter is an "y" and the second a "n" it shows only a part of a word

This picture is beautiful. It's very simple but it's still detailed. I love Arabic, I agree that it is a lovely looking language (I hope to learn it someday!), and the colors in this are great as well. Nice job. :)

David, in Arabic, this is part of a word which starts with NI, which by itself doesn't mean anything. As with photojournalism (news & magazines), it's ok to remove things to improve the photos. For instance the smudges or red smears on the signboard.
