Photographer’s Note
The first lighthouse built on Fire Island was completed in 1826. It was a 74-foot high.
In 1857 Congress appropriated $40,000 for the construction of a new tower, 168 feet tall.
The 192-step, spiral staircase leads to the watch room
The ascent is interrupted every 26 steps.
posted 2 WS for other views of the lighthouse.

Hello Jorge! I just wanted to ask if you went all the way up, all the 192 steps, but seeing your WS I can see that you had your full share of fitness ... Very nice inside and all the way up look. It certainly kept the lighthouse keeper in good shape and I guess he never had to go to the gym :) This is very good, I like it. Barbara.

hello Jorge,
what can I say, great shot! I like a lot how the patterns on the metal staircase mirror the bricks, and the spiral creates an illusion of being inside a huge sea shell :) excellent light management too, and the dizzying perspective adds to the power of this photo. outstanding work, my compliments.
with best regards,

hello Jorge,
fntastic POV showing the spiral staircase.I especially like the brickwork seems to spiral and cirlcle too. There is an interesting contrast betwen metal and brick both in texture and colour.

Hey Jorge,
It's good to finally be back into my old routine. I missed seeing everyone's photos. I think you have a really nice and interesting shot of this lighthouse. When I was in Maine a couple years back we never got to see the inside of one so for me this is very interesting. I never would have guessed it was a lighthouse. I think your lighting and sharpness are very good. I can only imagine the lighting isn't very good and then to take the shot overhead isn't an easy task. One thing I would have liked to have seen is having the spiral end within the rule of thirds. Not sure if that is possible but I think it would create more visual tension. Just an idea if you get the opportunity again.
Have a great day,
Mel

Detail, composition, and color are excellent, Jorge...

Hi Jorge,
Excellent shot! On the thumbnail I thought it looked like a closeup of some kind of shell or conch. :o)
Great framing, too. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Jorge,
I love the pattern created by a circular staircase, especially tightly wound. They create logarithmic spirals. Your note is informative, and the photograph is first rate.

Hi Jorge
From the smaller image this looks like the inside of a seashell. Interesting POV. Good lighting despite the conditions. Great contrast to see all the brickwork.
