Well, I think that if you really cared about the plant, you could probably do better than asphalt over its environment to a radius of 10 cm... It's going to be toasted when the summer comes. For sure...

colour change
If they change on uploading, it's a colour space problem. Make sure you save them as sRGB.

It's surprising that it seems to depend on your subject. Could it be that you're taking jpegs at less than the highest quality? That could blur fine detail like leaves.
