To dta: Purple

Dear Denis

Thank you very much for the kind comment. I think the 'purple haze' in the background is due to the sensitivity of Ektachrome to ultraviolet (the photo was taken at about 12 noon)....

To Coolka: Critique. . .

Dear Joanna

Why should I care about the other critiques (or lack of them) when one of my photographs has managed to move someone.

Thank you so much.

Best wishes

Stephen

To macondo: 'Brown sauce'

Hi Andrew, as I mentioned the other day, I will never buy another laptop from the company that is more famous as a purveyor of brown sauce in the UK!

I can confirm these 'Silvios' were correct in...

Have to agree with you, Fred. I'm struggling and so is Furachan. Perhaps it's impossible to turn the clock back.

See you soon on FB.

To Angshu: Fz-5

Hi Angshu

I had a lot of success with the FZ-5. Many of the 'old' images I have posted here were taken with it. Indeed, I had a far higher success rate with that camera than any I have owned...

Dear Ann,

Thank you for taking the criticism so well. The reason some of us lost faith in TE in years past was that it had become a place where 'dark green smilies' were traded between friends...

To annjackman: Cropping

Ann, many thanks for the kind words (and favourite!).

As you can perhaps tell, this version was cropped to a square format (some lead in from the bottom was cut at the risk of placing the girls...

Before you jump to Pentax, I think you've got to try the D7000 if you've not already had a test-drive in the Ginza. From what I read, the AF and metering will be at least a generation ahead of...

You must be in Europe still. Or are researching Pentax way into the Japanese morning! You may now have seen that I sent you a rambling email. Yes, too much work and no time for TE (or the other...

Noel Coward. . .

Persevere with it. The nonchalance of the man was breathtaking. I almost faved it despite the change in colour temp etc.

Trying to persevere myself with the scans from Seoul. I'm not finding scans...

Virtue is a grace
Grace is a dirty little girl

Yes, it took a while for someone of the right age to pass. . . It was indeed a large poster - for...

Barolo

I try, my friend, I try. . . Perhaps that brief flight into excellence was aided by the fine bottle of Barolo which accompanied lunch.

I have to take assorted rolls to my preferred developer...

To macondo: Panasonic FZ-5

Hi Andrew

That's right, "the English fellow who lives in Belgium"! And we did indeed both use an FZ-5, still my most successful camera in terms of 'keepers' although it's long since retired....

I posted a not immediately attractive image on to Photofolia in the hope that some there might appreciate its depths but it...

Hi Cristina

Thank you so much for the comment.

Indeed it wasn't staged! Someone once wrote that it was evident it was not as the guy's stance (in their opinion) was so wooden. . .

Have a...

To Housegaijin: Nikon. . .

Indeed, it would be interesting to see a Canon version to compare. But the thing I really noticed about the D200 was its keenness towards a yellow cast. It's not so obvious here with the Asian skin...

To guitianmiranda: Tokyo taxi

That is a very kind comment, Carlos.

As I wrote in the Note, it took me some 15 minutes to achieve this composition, during which time Odd Job was watching me very carefully. . .

Of course you are right, my friend. DoF is more important here. But nevertheless, I found the 17-55 disappointing at f/2.8.

When I spend a fair sum of money on an f/2.8 lens, I want to be able to...

Wow, what a compliment, Cristina! That is too kind of you! ;)

I think I tried it with a white border but decided it looked better in black.

Best wishes
