Great portrait. Not just a picture but a universal story.
Edit: ok so no green.
I think it is the look of cautious anticipation on his face that is the saddest part. It's reinforced by the POV, which leaves him looking up at us, his sinewy body appearing even more diminutive looking. The prominance of the cup overides the whole interaction, forming a strong question. What will we do.....
Touching, regretable and unfortunately all too familiar.

So smileys aren't your thing.... fair enough. I can understand as it appears that often on TE the points become the driving force rather the photos themselves.
That said, I must be a bit guilty myself as the ego in me still likes to see them :)
