Great ribeiroantonio 2009-01-27 15:47

Geologically speaking the correct spelling is “stromatolite”. For the picture, it is an interesting one.

Default To ribeiroantonio: Stromatalite/Stromatolite

Hi Antonio,

Thanks for the comment and it made me think if I had made a mistake, but it looks like both spellings are in common use in geological literature, I too am a geoscientist working in the oil industry and have access to a wide range of journals and both spellings pulled up significant references.

I'm not sure if there is a geographic split in the spelling - US Vs UK English etc

Default Re: To ribeiroantonio: Stromatalite/Stromatolite

Hi Andrew,
You may be right but I can not find the Stromatalite spelling in any of my geology dictionaries and/or literature. A search in Google found 295 references against 102,000 for the Stromatolite spelling. However, I believe it is an irrelevant issue.
What is your occupation as a geologist in the oil industry? Me too, I work in the oil industry and I have been a wellsite geologist in drilling for almost 30 years.
