Hello Chris,
I recently scanned a few photos from Göreme taken in 1970. I might show them here later this winter, even though the quality is very far below this. I remember this place well, and the fantastic interiors, but I can't remember any area called an Open air museum.
From some of the ancient graves in Luxor I remember desperate guards trying to stop tourists from using flashes on the delicate paintings. I couldn't believe how people could be so senseless.
Best regards,
Gert

Hej Gert
A quick search revealed the Goreme Open Air Museum commenced in 1984, well after you were there. More info and photos here: https://www.turkeytravelcentre.com/b...um-cappadocia/ https://www.goreme.com/goreme-open-air-museum.php |

Thank you Chris,
I had to dig out my diary to refresh my memory of my visit. There is not a word of any entrance fees, guards, guides, tourist buses, information office or signs, only a few brief words of a Danish family entering one of the churches and "showing such profound interest that they stayed for several minutes". It was a poor, very rural area of dirt roads and donkeys and not even one sightseeing balloon. Regards, Gert |
