I dunno about you guys but I HATE these longish WIKEPEDIA notes, so ersatz, so auto-generated, so vapid. I would frankly plead that we stop using the bloody things.
I guess I'm saying two things here: 1. NO to generic Wikepedia text 2. NO to notes that go on and on and on forever (unles they're wrotten by Kevryan, OOPS!). Why not say something that reflects one's personal experience of the place, make it as succinct and (if possible) entertaining as possible, and leave it at that. Just a thought a rant a reverie... |

I fully support you Francis and I also hate these 'long cut & paste' notes from Wikipedia (or any other web site). I prefer personal notes, and preferably short ones. These can always be completed by a link to Wikipedia or another Web page for additional information on the photo's subject.

I do fully support you Francis, while I like to read interesting notes TE is not a place to dump wikipedia, I prefer that people write a short text on their own and provide the LINK to wikipedia for the very few who'll want to find out more.
I did read a superb long personal note yesterday, but it was from paolo, not kevryan ! |

Francis, I partialy agree. copying Wiki is boring, there's nothing personal about that. Besides the guidelines expressing the same point of view you have, there are however exceptions (Carper) that can write a good note with facts.
What I don't agree about is that a note should be short. If someone is gifted, I don't mind reading a long note. I agree that personal notes are better. Just my personal point of view, as short as possible :) |

I fully agree, and I can't see why there should be made an exception.
Notes shouldn't be short for people who have an entertaining way of saying something. |

Don't see why it's an issue - if you don't like the look of a note, don't read it.

And what about the complete EXIF in the note ?

About long notes. You hate them, you don't read them. You forgot that there are people who are surching a good note by a photo. I try to do that for over the 450 photo's. And believe me there are people who like the notes and respect the photographer. Always better then write nothing.

Agree 100%.
Instead of attacking those who make an effort, the real target should be those who cannot be bothered to write anything. |
