Great macjake 2016-10-29 1:21

Hi Ourania
gotta love it! those classic looking greek homes we've all come to recognize.

so you're saying you're not 100% sure what the blue and white stripes on the flag represent? or the cross? i'd like to know if you could tell us.

interesting how so little of the hills in the bg have been used for homes, still alot of land to be built on.
happy holiday!
cheers
craig

Default To macjake: Hello Craig

Hello Craig,
thank you very much! I'm pretty sure about everything regarding the Greek flag, except the exact hue of blue. You can see it in either darker or lighter tones and Wikipedia said the exact hue has not been defined yet. The cross stands for the Greek-Orthodox religion and tradition, the nine stripes represent the nine syllables of "Freedom or Death" in Greek. That was the vow taken by those who started and carried out the Greek Revolution to end the country's almost 400 year long occupation by the Ottoman Empire (1821).
It's funny you mentioned the empty space on the hills, my brother-in-law and his brother own a piece of land on the hill, very close to the edge of the flag and might just add another building there some day
All the best,
Ourania
