Hello David,
This is a remarkably crisp, well composed photograph of the lighthouse. It seem slightly underexposed, which is great for colour depth.
The inclusion of the figures emphasises the height and magnitude of this impressive structure.
Doesn't it just make you smile ... Portland Bill.
I know that's the name but you want to ask, 'Why wasn't it Portland Charlie, or Portland Joe?' 😁

Thanks for reviewing . I've just looked it up and this is what I got Image result for why is it called portland bill 'The name "Portland Bill" has its roots in "The Beel" as named on early maps. This derived from the beak shape of Portland Bill. From 1588 onwards, when the area was part of a crucial Armanda invasion-warning network, it was often named "The Beacon".' |
