Great batalay 2012-08-21 20:30

Hello Ourania,

The concrete cylinders topped crowned by red domes create an eye catching curve, leading the eyes through town. Leros appears to be a clean, well kept island. As for St. Nicholas, have ever visited Alanya on the Southern Coast of Turkey, where St. Nicholas, the Bishop of Myra lived in the 4th Century. Santa Clause was inspired by St. Nicholas

Warm regards,

Hello Bulent,
thank you for your comment and for the information. I haven't been to Alanya, but I've been to Bodrum, Gulluk and Ephesus. The primary school of Ayia Marina has established a friendship which later became a twinning with the school of Gulluk since 1987. Last May we celebrated the 25 years of this lovely friendship.
St. Nicholas is the patron saint of the people of the sea, very revered on Leros, like in any other island.
Thank you again!
All the best, have a lovely day,
