you mean 14-24 or 17-35?
both are superb lenses, you'll be pleased with for sure. Heavy and expensive. But these are wide lenses, not the best choice for portraits I guess.
(both are a must if you think getting in future camera with "FX" chip (24x36); else the 12-24 DX is also an excellent choice)

For portraits, I guess a 50 or better a 85 f/1.4 (or 1.8) are more suitable.

Be careful !
D40x don't have it's own embedded autofocus motor and require only AF-S lenses !
An AF-S lens includes its own autofocus motor
50 or 85 lens are AF-D and don't include their own AF motors.
However, AF-D can be used on D40, D40X and new D60 but only on manual mode (very difficult because lack of Fresnel device)
Cheers

Bonjour everybody,

As you're speaking about Nikon, I've some questions too...

I'd like to change my Fuji for a Nikon D40X, just seeing an offert in the shop nearby:
D40x + 18-55 mm + 55-200 mm objectieven + bag for 749,00, or
NIKON D60 18-55 + 55-200 for 799,00.
Which would you advise and what about the prices?
I see the D40x is desappearing and we'll soon get some great stunts...

What about the Nikkor 18-135mm lens instead of 18-55 mm + 55-200 mm?

Amicalement - Viviane

* Knowing that I like landscapes & children portraits... :o)

The problem of D40x is it's not sold (in France)alone.
A good choice would be the D40x with 18-200VR if this combination is available in your country

Thank you both JP & Didier,
But isn't such lens too heavy?
(I mean... I'm close to 60 and maybe soon having "shaking hands"? ;o)))
What about the sharpness or image stabilisation then?
Would I always need a tripod?
