Good Clairedelune 2009-02-15 11:35

Hello Cristina,
I have mixed feelings about this photo. I think it enters in the category of the "almost" or the "could have been good". Let me explain myself. Here, I see two subjects. One is the guy on his knees, praying. The other one it the guy sitting on the chair on the right. My problem here is that they are not 'connected' somehow. Connected doesn't mean that they have to interact to each other. The photo could have been 'interpreted' as a dichotomy between the two behaviors. The problem is that it cannot be read like that, mostly because the guy on the right is too much cut to become a player in the photo. It is difficult for me to express what I mean, so I hope you will understand...
So, I think the photo should have been taken not including him and concentrate on the man on his knees, who was a wonderful subject!
Indeed, maybe a little bit of dodging would be good, but the WS doesn't achieve that, in my opinion.
Claire

Default To Clairedelune: re:

hello Claire,
don't worry - I follow you perfectly because these were/are my concerns as well.
the image is already cropped - right and left were other people and this explains why the bald guy looks "chopped".
I wanted to eliminate the sitting guy, too - but when I did it the distribution of space didn't feel quite right. so I left it, even though I was not convinced.
I could not zoom in since I had a fixed focal (85mm) and I could not go any nearer because the kneeling guy would have shifted out of focus.
as to the dodging... I am not quite sure how much PP is allowed on TE pages, so I dodged the areas around his head and in the background a bit, but stopped there for the above mentioned reasons.
so in the end I fully agree with you and I am really glad you took the time to comment the photo extensively - very few people do that, usually.
thanks again!
c.
