Great emka 2017-11-04 13:33

Hello Gert, Beautiful pictures, difficult to believe that they are older than some of our friends here. Good originals and fantastic scanning work. How strange that you went there in such dangerous war time, and as you write you were there not for your job. Weren't you afraid?
Reading your note I thought about our friend Way. He was could be like this boy. Maybe you remember his dramatic story here. He was such a refugee , risked his life for a better future and all ended well. Was the fate also good for these kids? Excellent discovery in your archive.

Kind regrad s MAlgo

Default To emka: not afraid

Thanks Malgo,
I had made sure that it was fairly safe to go to Laos in spite of the war. I was like you, I couldn't go near a border without crossing it. The guerrilla attacked the airport at L.P. the night before I was to fly to Vientiane, but my plane could take off after they had filled a few holes in the runway and sent two planes to "clear the way" by bombing the surrounding hills. Nothing to worry about.
I was young.
Cheers,
Gert
