Hello Beverley, visiting some of these ancient gardens is so fascinating, especially when you consider their age and how the world must have been when the gardens were laid down.
Did you see this view with the fountains working?
I would not have realised that this was a photo that you had taken, it's a good job.
The notes help to bring the picture to life.

Thank you for your warm critique, Jean.

The fountains had been turned off for some sort of maintenance.
Just my luck! Those sort of things happen!
I remember going to the Place at Knossos, when we were on Crete, the most widely famous ancient site on the island.
We hired a car to travel across the island from Chania.
When we arrived, the palace and grounds were locked!
The staff were on strike; the first time in the history of the island!
There were lots of tour buses turning up, too!
