Photographer's Note

The 4 km long dirtroad from Ouidah to the coast is called the slaveroad because of the thousands of slaves that were deported from Ouidah that was under control of the kingdom of Dahomey, a legendary and very cruel African state with an army of feerful Amazones, to the coast where the European boats (Portuguese, Dutch, French and English) were waiting to transport them to their colonies in the New World.
Along the road several statues with Voudoun symbols are erected.

Gerrit, when I saw this picture, I feel like I am there now. Simple, but it tells story and a sense of location and daily life of people there. Well done. Sothy

J'aime cette composition avec la statue qui rappelle les douloureux souvenirs d'une période pas si lointaine où l'homme avait réduit son semblable à l'esclavage.

Gerrit, my friend, a sad but true story about this pathway. But it is this photo from you which is so true to life and well compoosed that I can understand the sadness for the slaves in those times..
The staue is very well included as a symbol. Superb composition with real African colors.
The tower on the left side is a contrast with the rest, but we can't avoid it :-)
