National Voodoo Day, a photo from Oueme, South

Photographer's Note

For the last decade or so, Benin has designated January 10th as its National Voodoo Day (also known as National Traditional Religions Day).

The best place to witness the festivities is in Ouidah. Unfortunately, I could not make it there, but I did manage to see this small ceremony that was being held just outside of Porto-Novo. These men where chanting at the time ... I have absolutely know idea what they were saying mind you!

Despite of the presence of the chairs the scene is very interesting with nice warm colours.

I have been to colorful Africa with my Canadian friends, your photo takes me back to my great days.

Nice picture w/ action all captured clear colors. If you could remove the chair it would have been better.

yes Caleb,the chairs are a little bit to much maybe with some photoshop you can move it.

Hi Caleb,
I've to go to Benin in two weeks and I like to see some voodoo ceremonies. Your compo is really interesting and impressive with a good attitude of these men.
Maybe a bit overexposed on the top-right but it remains an interesting document of photo reportage.

This is a day that I would love to witness. I like the serious facial expressions. The common clothing really helps to pull this all together.

We don't have many picture from Benin so it is nice to see a set of your photos from there.
Group men in identical costume singing to celebrate Voodoo Day. The shot was well capture with good colors, light and sharpness.
